Fall 2011: The project was completed this summer. We have not analyzed the results yet. The background is: The NW pedestrian island- critical for transportation safety- is proposed to be removed in summer 2011 by the City and State in order to make room for another left turn lane onto Mullan from Reserve. The pedestrian crossing distance would be increased from 79' to 101'. MIST is opposed to this plan and instead advocates for a comprehensive approach for solving the congestion and safety issues. Instead of adding more lanes, we, as a community, can increase bus service, bring back passenger rail, connect all walk and bike ways, add strategic mixed use land development, increase efforts to shift rush hour traffic to other hours of the day, along with other community solutions.
